We continue with the new release for the beginning of 2017. A new product is available in all our shops and on Artistocracy (all the visuals were generated in all the shops). You will find it in the category "art for walls". It's the "metal + wood print".
But what exactly is it? The item is composed of a wooden board (MDF) almost 2 cm thick. On top, a thin metal plate is hot glued. The design / visual is then applied via hot high-definition printing on the metal once the item is assembled. The slice and the back of the product are black. A notch system on the back is included to allow quick and easy hook-up. The rendering of the printing is particularly shiny. Available in several formats, we love this new kind of print with its thick black slice, which can be placed on a piece of furniture, a console, a desk or on any type of wall.
They are already online for about ten days but we have not yet made the official announcement. We have added the A5 format of our high-end notebook with fabric cover, printed on both sides, always in very high definition and with a fabric mark (white for the A5 format). You can now order the notebook in A4 or A5 format. It has been automatically added to all visuals and shops!
Above all, we wish you a wonderful New Year 2017. Hope it be a creative year, full of magic and surprises. Let it be YOUR year! Most of artists say so: turning one’s art into a sustainable business is like a long and winding road punctuated with many questions.
That is why we have identified hereunder the key factors allowing to increase the sales opportunities in your shop on Artistocracy.com (and elsewhere) via 10 crucial points shedding some light on the operation of Artistocracy.
1 - Promote your own shop, not Artistocracy’s
So far and from the start, 90% of the sales are made by the artists’ shops. This figure speaks for itself and matches both our wish and our goal, namely that each designer promotes his/her own shop (understanding one’s own URL, e.g: http://artistocracy.com/xxxxx (xxxxx being your artist name), not Artistocracy website, that we deal with ourselves.
Yet, we receive a lot of feedback (questions) from designers about the presence and the position of their creations in the lists of Artistocracy website.Hence this first advice: understand that your interest is to promote your own shop first.
2 - Customize your shop as much as possible
Here is another basic point, but personalizing your shop is a key factor. Indeed, by doing so, you harmonize container and content. But the people sensitive to your art will be all the more receptive to your shop if it is a reflection of you. Thus, it is important to customize it as much as possible with the many dedicated tools available in your account.
Similarly, do not neglect your description, your links, or your avatar.
As to the page “About me”, it is one among those the most consulted on all artists’ shops. Be especially attentive to it.
This customization as a whole allows people who appreciate your work to have more information about you and to follow you on the web.
3- Post your best creations
Your shop is a reflection of your work and, understandably, you want it to reveal your art as much as possible. So you spend hours, and sometimes days, to create a design, but do keep in mind also that the more beautiful artworks your shop displays, the more it will increase its value, and the more sales opportunities you will have.
Of course, that does not mean you can only post the crème de la crème of your work! However, select cautiously the creations that will represent you in your shop. Consistence and high quality standards that you demonstrate towards yourself are the key factors to the sales you make.
4- Adapt your designs to the materials
The product creation tool we provide is both powerful and very flexible. Yet, not any design is good for any material. You must adapt your creation to the chosen material or choose your creation according to a precise material. So, "all-over” kind of visuals work pretty well on phone casings and sleeves, cushions, bean bags, table cloths, table runners, belts, shoes, jewels, totebags, mugs, but not on pictures, canvas, clothing…
On the contrary, photography types of creations work very well on posters, paintings, canvas, wallpapers, engraved pictures, but not so well on the other materials.
Of course, these general rules, like any rule, can be broken on a case by case basis.
In other words: adapt your creations to the materials and choose your material according to your creation.
5- Describe your creations and choose their category with as much finesse as possible
By analyzing the hundreds of creations already posted, we note that very few of them make full use of those two available options when an artist creates a new item. However, this should be major elements in more ways than one:
- when a customer looks for a particular item, he/she uses the search engine or the filters of the site. That means that the more precise, thorough and meaningful your description is, the more easily he/she will find your creation. The more relevant the selected categories, the easier to find your creations will be.
- the second point meets the first but is related to search engines, what is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
To put it in simple terms, Google and the other search engines value the content of each page. As a consequence: the more precise and relevant the content, the more chances it has to be well ranked in search engines. Of course, that does not mean you need to stuff your description with inadequate key words, which would penalize your shop and ultimately, your sales.
6 - Making sales on your shop
It is important to understand that promoting your own shop, and thus, your art, is THE crucial factor par excellence. Indeed, following the previous advices is useful to create the best environment possible to make sales. But if you are aiming at making the more profits possible out of your shop, you will need to go further and invest time in promoting your shop in particular and your art in general.
Spending countless hours creating designs is a good thing, but if you want to turn your shop into a business, you will also need to spend many hours, on a regular basis, promoting it.
We put tools at your disposal in your account to make things easier, but using social networks* is crucial here. Use Instagram, Behance, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, etc. to present to your friends and fans the items you have made and highlighted with love in your shop. If one of your products becomes viral, that means big sales are going to be made.
Using social networks is also a good way to let your fans and the ones who appreciate your art know about your shop, where they will be able to buy one or several of your creations. Your work will be shared, shared again and this will result in sales.
Additional tip: resist the temptation to publish several products/creations at the same time because it is less efficient than posting regularly just one product/creation.
(* We will talk again about social networks in a coming-up post of dedicated tips)
7 - Post new creations on a regular basis
This is another very important point, because it is directly linked to the promotion and the advice here above.
Every new creation post makes your shop richer and heartier, because of your catalogue expansion, which mathematically increases your chances to make sales.
Each post of a new creation is also an opportunity to revive the promotion of your shop and your new items. In this way, you reinforce your potential sales and let your new fans and those who missed the info know about your own online shop where your creations can be purchased.
8 - Let your fans know about promotions
From September, we will regularly offer very interesting discounts and promotions in the order of 10% to 15 % in the form of immediate discount or free shipping, or even a promotion on a particular item.
Pass on the promotion code in your network, that will be another opportunity to promote your shop and your items while proposing a good deal to your fans and clients. The best thing being to create a specific visual to let them know, because you know better than anyone that a beautiful image always evokes more than a mere text.
9 – Dress up your site and your network
A very simple and efficient way to convey information to your fans and the people visiting your site is to put an image/a banner/a link in a strategic area of your site. Indeed, when visitors discover your work, your site, your profiles, and they see a beautiful, cleverly positioned and well integrated image/banner promoting your shop, it may help turning this visitor into a customer.
Likewise, a prominent link placed in your descriptions and presentations of your different profiles, is a real plus, for instance, in your Instagram and Twitter bio, in your Facebook description and presentation, etc.
10 - Track your sales to find out what works best
In your account, you can access several statistic tools and a detailed list of your sales. Take time to analyze them to know which creations are best-selling in terms of materials and style, in particular. And so, if a design proposed on a few products sells well on a given material, why not considering proposing more products with this design? Likewise, creating new design in the same spirit, line or style as the ones that sell well deserves at least to be examined.
This first series of 10 advices ends with an additional tip about social network, and especially Instagram. The more fans and followers you have, the more chances to make sales. So far, nothing new, but knowing that a good way to expand your community is to post interesting and high quality content, propose a timelapse, a tutorial or a work in process (#wip) of one of your creations. It is an excellent way to attract traffic. If this video, tutorial or ce WIP becomes viral and you took extra care to position correctly the link to your shop in your bio or previous posts, it could lead to many sales. All the more so as you followed all the pro advices above.
See you very soon for another series of tips about social networks. Until then, make good sales.
